Music Ministry
Welcome to Beulah, Kim Karchenes, Director of Music/Accompanist Kim has been involved in church music since she began playing for St. Susanna’s Parish in Dedham, MA when she was a teenager. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Lowell and has been a performing classical pianist for the past 25 years. She has performed extensively throughout Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire as a soloist and accompanist. She was guest pianist with the Thayer Symphony Orchestra, has played Mass at St Mark’s Cathedral in Venice, Italy, has played an Episcopalian Service in Denmark, and has performed at Carnegie Hall with the Tim Janis Christmas Ensemble. She has a Professional Certificate in Sacred Music from Virginia Wesleyan College. Kim is excited to revive the music program here and will conduct the Chancel Choir, Bell Choir and hopes to work towards having a Children’s Choir. She believes there is a strong connection between music and worship which helps us link our hearts and minds with God through a wide variety of musical offerings. In May, 2022, Kim, her husband Dana and her dog moved from Maine to Kentucky. And yes she is LOVING the hot weather, no more snow for her! When not practicing she and her husband love tending their vegetable garden and working on making their new home their own. She enjoys playing with their German Shepherd Kiersa and searching for that next big “find” in the local flea markets. If you can SING or RING — Beulah is looking for you! Bell Choir & Chancel Choir practice on Wednesday evenings in the Choir Room located in the Blue Hall, Christian Education area. Choir practice is from 7-8:30 p.m., the last week of August through mid-June. Speak with Kim Karchenes - [email protected] or 207-752-2398 if you have any questions or concerns. Ringing bells or lifting your voice in song are both a blessing to the participant as well as the congregation. Consider sharing your talents in this way. CHANCEL CHOIR The choir offers music most Sundays during the worship service. Their selections draw on many genres of music, and seek to honor God and draw the people's attention to God's Spirit. During the Advent, Christmas, and Lenten seasons, the choir frequently sings a cantata or other larger work. They also enjoy participating in the Fern Creek Ministerial Association's annual Spring Choir Festival. They sing throughout the school year and practice at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings from the last week of August through the middle of June. New voices are always welcome, whether experienced or novice. BELL CANTO
The Handbell Choir is an intergenerational ensemble, perfect for those just beginning to explore their musical gifts or those with many years' experience. Made up of three octaves of bells, the group offers music in worship every few months. New ringers are always welcome! The Handbell Choir practices at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings when announced. To experience and learn more about any of our musical ensembles, please join us for worship.
