PRAYING HANDS MINISTRY
Our ministry is a statement of faith and a testimony to our belief in God and the power of prayer. We make comforters to express these prayers and give love, comfort and support to those in need. Comforters are given to church members and friends in times of need and to the Brown Cancer Center to comfort those undergoing treatment. The busy hands of volunteers who knit, crochet, and sew make this mission possible. We encourage anyone who enjoys these crafts to contact us for information about how to contribute to this ministry. If you or anyone you know is in need of special comfort, please contact the church office so we can connect you with this ministry. COMMUNITY GARDEN Through a Girl Scout Gold Award project, Beulah now offers twelve raised bed garden areas behind the Ramsey Gym. Each bed is available for a seasonal rental to members of the church or community for a small fee. Gardeners are able to raise beautiful, healthy produce to feed their families or to be donated to the food pantry at FCHUM. LOCAL MISSION AND MINISTRY Beulah offers support to many local ministries including Wayside Mission, Uspiritus, Habitat for Humanity, Living Waters for the World, Centsability (3 Cents a Meal) offering, Presbyterian Church (USA) special offerings, Presbyterian Disaster Relief, and Prison Fellowship's Angel Tree program. ST. BERNADETTE DIAPER BANK The three-year-old preschool room has been made available for the St. Bernadette Diaper Bank. This service project of St. Bernadette Catholic Church has received a semi-truck load of diapers to be distributed to low-income parents. The volunteers will be at Beulah weekly to bundle and wrap diapers for distribution throughout the Louisville area. |
RIP MEDICAL DEBT
We are being asked to be part of the broader Mid-Kentucky Presbytery campaign to raise funds to eliminate the enormous burden of medical debt of many of our fellow neighbors in central Kentucky.
We have partnered with RIP Medical Debt, a highly rated 501c3 charity that specializes in forgiving medical debts. Here’s how they started.
RIP Medical Debt was founded in 2014 by two former debt collection executives. After decades of working in the for-profit debt-buying industry they eventually realized they were uniquely qualified to help those in need. They imagined a new way to relieve medical debt: use donations to buy large bundles of debt for pennies on the dollar thus erasing debt with no tax consequences to the recipients.
The results have been spectacular!
To date they have acquired and abolished over $8 billion in medical debt for over 5 million families.
They are rated at the highest level by the respected charity rating service, Charity Navigator, 100% 4-star level.
Operating expenses are being covered by philanthropic gifts from people like MacKenzie Scott so 100% of your donation goes directly to debt relief.
RIP’s debt abolishment process is transparent and efficient:
RIP contracts with a hospital or other medical providers. The hospital transmits a patient accounts data file to RIP
RIP identifies patients in financial hardship by integrating data from TransUnion – Who benefits? Individuals who meet at least one of the two criteria:
1) Those earning less than 4x the federal poverty level, or
2) Those having debts that are 5% or more of annual income (it should be noted: they do not abolish debt by request for specific individuals but only by geographic area)
3) RIP buys the medical debt from the provider at a highly discounted rate.
4) Families, without any prior awareness, will simply receive a surprise letter from RIP stating their debt has been paid off thanks to this Presbyterian Church effort.
Think about it . . .
every dollar you donate forgives approximately $100 in medical debt
every ten dollars you donate forgives approximately $1,000 in medical debt
every hundred dollars you donate forgives approximately $10,000 in medical debt (Continued on Page 2) (Continued from Page 1) The amount collected by Mid-Kentucky Presbytery to date is $13,025.70.
This campaign is another example, much like the car charging stations . . .
that we are church members more interested in helping than in being helped
that we are church members more interested in loving than being loved
that we are church members more interested in giving than getting
Beulah will be collecting your donations each Sunday throughout the month of June. Please note on your check “RIP Medical Debt.” You can also donate on-line by going to Beulah’s website, beulahpres.org, and click on the “Donate” button.
